Notwithstanding the materials used to build them, they may also come in many different shades and designs. Because most families want to add the touch of creativity in the home rooms, they much prefer the well designed stools and tables to really get into the creativity thick of things. For those that prefer to inject a medieval touch in the rooms, the wooden tables and stools are much preferred, while the metal ones are used by the contemporary lovers who prefer sturdiness over beauty.
A close look at the bar stools and you will notice that, 30 inches is the standard height of the seat while 26 inches is commonly the standard for the kitchen counters. But then, we have the ones that are taller than the 30 inches by an additional 6 inches and they are commonly used in the contemporary styled bars. The tables may be slightly higher by about 2 inches to have a comfortable sitting. Bar tables and stools and their inches make quite a marked difference from the normal chairs and tables because the normal stools, for instance, have 18 inches as their height.
There are bar tables and stools that are fixed to the ground to avoid too much movement or in bars, to avoid the stools and tables being used as weapons when fighting erupts in the bars. But the fixed stools and tables are yet to catch on with home owners because they want the stools to be versatile. But, just to have the durability of the tables and stools checked, some families resort to getting metal plates affixed to them so that they may keep their playful kids at bay.
Back to the creativity bit, there are bar tables and stools that are made from bamboo sticks or rattan. These materials are very useful especially in the current age where creativity is no longer within the narrow confines of the skilled designers. The bamboo and rattan are used to induce a very flashy tiki bar splendor and form. With a Jamaican feel about your room, well you would probably have the whole Cameron Island bar with you in the house.
Bar tables and stools also make use of aluminum especially for the patio, outdoor setup. This is very predominantly used by commercial businesses like hotels and restaurants among others, because for them, sturdiness and durability is more important. For the indoor forms, well the wooden stools and tables always suffice, to say the least.
It may be to belabor the point if we keep hitting on the popularity of the Bar tables and stools. However, still, they now form the very fabric of our homes, business premises and sometimes, office décor. Bar tables and stools with all the diverse styles that come with it are here to stay.

When Was the 24″ Bar Stool Invented
By: Jane Moore
I believe that 24 inch bar stools are a fairly modern development in the area of bar stools. Historically, there were only 30 inch bar stools. The 30 inch bar stool dates back hundreds of years. The standard height was set based on sitting at old English style pubs. When I first got into the bar design business all of the stools were generally standardized. They were the same heights, and for the most part one of only a few styles and designs. You would walk into just about any pub and not be able to tell them apart if you only had the bar stools to go by. Now there are hundreds of different types of bar stools that are manufactured and commercially available.
For the most part there are now two standard bar stool height: there are 24 inch bar stools and 30 inch bar stools. The higher 30″ bar stools are found in commercial venues such as pubs, night clubs and restaurants. Both the 24 inch and 30 inch bar stools models are commonly found in residential settings. With hundreds of different models to choose from you can make your bar area as unique as you want.
During the 60s and 70s, the use of bars in private homes was generally limited to basement family rooms or possibly outside on the pool deck. The stools found around the pool tended to be made out chrome or resin. For obvious reasons, the stools needed to be water resistant. Bar stools found in the basement recreation rooms tended to be wooden with a swivel seat and a chair back. These stools were stained a dark natural walnut or oak color. All of these older style bar stools were primarily designed for use by fully grown adults.
In the mid-90s kitchen renovations were really becoming popular. Kitchen renovation shows were popping up on TV. New glossy kitchen renovation magazines were being launched. It was beginning to dawn on people that the kitchen was an integral and very important part of the family home. Today kitchens are still about function but they are also about style and lifestyle. Today, it is all about granite counters, stainless appliances, cappuccino makers, marble back splashes, and breakfast bars and breakfast bar stools. Breakfast bar stools are generally 24 inch bar stools.
The idea of the purpose of a kitchen changed radically. A kitchen wasn’t just about making food or doing the dishes. A kitchen became a place to enjoy family time. This concept came to fruition just as we all realized a bigger kitchen with more counter space was needed if the food preparation and clean up was to be shared with other activities. The breakfast bar became the ideal place to read the paper or do homework.
There are a number of good reasons the 24″ bar stool was created. Not the least of which was that the older taller chairs seemed too big for the kitchen. However, likely the most important reason was child safety. If children were to use these stools then the standard height stools were simply too high and posed a danger to children. The shorter 24″ bar stool was perfect as it blended into the kitchen and was safe for use by children.

A Guide to the Modern Kitchen
Kitchens have been located just about everywhere throughout time – from a corner in the home during Colonial times, to outbuildings in the south and special, separate “summer kitchens” in colder climates. Modern kitchens are now considered the heart of a home. Contemporary kitchens are not only thought of as a place to cook, but a place to visit and work together with friends and family as well as a comfortable place to spend time.
options include Lazy Susan cabinets, stacked shelving, wheeled shelving, hidden storage shelves and deeper and more functional cabinet sizes. Today’s manufacturing materials are made to last. Custom finishes applied to shelving and storage areas ensure easy maintenance.
Cutting edge appliance manufacturers are now developing more energy efficient and safer appliances for use in modern kitchens. Dishwashers, refrigerators and trash compactors are as attractive as they are functional with options that allow them to blend in with the kitchen decor. With the availability of self-cleaning features and easy maintenance, state-of-the-art appliances are more compact, more convenient and more efficient than ever.
Advances in cabinetry and storage have made it possible to store more in the kitchen. Stacked and rolling shelving, Lazy Susans, turntable shelves and deep well-crafted cabinets all make the most of available space even in small kitchens. Cooking islands are popular and generally include cabinets under the counter top.
The kitchens of the 1940s and 1950s grew from what was usually, during Colonial times, a corner space in the home called the “hearth.” In southern parts of the United States, the kitchen was often in an outbuilding where slaves did the cooking. Northern homes sometimes added a “summer kitchen” in a separate building where canning and other summer cooking activities took place. As the electrical grid and gas lines were built into more and more places in the United States, the kitchen was moved into a small room in the home. Built more for function than convenience, traditional kitchens are generally small, with little counter and cabinet space.
Modern kitchen appliances no longer resemble their predecessors. Early stoves were heavy, large and fueled by wood. Coal and kerosene cook stoves were next developed and, as the nation’s infrastructures grew, the first electric and gas stoves were advanced. Today’s ovens and stoves are more compact and use less energy than earlier versions. There are also more recent technologies such as convection and microwave ovens that decrease cooking times, thereby using less power.
Because of today’s busy lifestyles, it is required that modern kitchens offer more than function. In addition to space saving storage and more efficient room layouts, cabinetry and appliances are easier to clean and maintain. Energy-efficient appliances are less expensive to run and have added safety features. While the traditional kitchen paved the way for today’s kitchen, modern kitchens offer more comfort and ease of use than their predecessors.
