Getting Creative with Old Bar Stools

Instead of throwing your old bar stools out, find some creative uses for them.  Make plant stands out of them.  If your bar stool has a flat seat, it can make the perfect plant stand. This is great for a DIY project.  You can cut the legs on each stool to different heights for a tiered look.   Make sure that all the legs are even and level.

Now for the fun part.  When you’re done with the plant stand heights, then strip and repaint each stool or just sand a little to give them a rough weathered look.  Use your own custom colors. Take your customization further by adding some beads, mosaic tiles, fringe or maybe do some stenciling.  Now you have created a neat new conversation piece.

I tend to opt for refinishing stools. It allows you to keep usng them as barstools, but doesn’t prevent you from using them as plants stands.

I’m all for reusing things. Using old bar stools as plant stands is a great idea.

If the old bar stool was wooden though it is not a good solution for plant stand, since it can’t take much moisture, and eventually it will bend or brake.

Do you think you could also cut down the height of an old bar stool and use it as a small occasional table?

I do like the idea of recycling old stools into something new, it is just a shame that I don’t have any that I want to change at the moment!!

It is really easy to refinish a wooden barstool and make it look like new. All you have to do is strip away the finish, sand to make it smooth, add color and then polyurethain. It is time consuming, but not hard at all.

I had some old metal barstools that we didn’t use anymore and gave them away to someone who needed some. They were new to them:)

True. You’d have to put a plastic tray of something under the plant to keep the water off of the bar stool.

Bubble, I love your idea to cut down the legs and make a little table. That would be a cool looking table too!
